Ever needed to talk to someone privately and didn't want to hand over your phone number, create yet another account, or trust a company you've never heard of with the conversation? DayJabber's chat is a room name and a password — nothing else.
A room is ephemeral by default. Nothing is saved unless you turn persistence on. Everyone who has the room name and password can join and talk.
No account, no phone number, no email. Two shared secrets get you in.
Nothing to install. Open the page, and you're in the room.
Messages exist only while the session is open, unless you save them yourself.
Anyone who knows the room name can find it. Use something only your group would guess — not "chat1".
This is what actually keeps people out. Room name gets someone to the door, password gets them through it.
No verification, no history tied to it. Any name you want, every time you join.
Strongly recommended: if you're creating this room, set a master password in room options. It's what lets you change the room password or delete the room later. If you don't set one, anyone who knows the room password can set the master password themselves and take control of the room.
You don't invite someone through the app — there's no directory of users to search. You send them the room name and password: text, email or in person. Once they enter both through Enter Room button, they're in the room.
DayJabber chat is a website, not an installed app. That's a deliberate trade-off, not a missing feature.
No app store listing, no permissions screen, no update prompts every week.
An installed app can run in the background, log location, and phone home even when closed. A browser tab can't — it only runs while the page is open and active.
Close the tab and there's no icon, no cache of your contacts, no background service still running on your phone.
Because this is a browser tab and not an installed app, the connection stays alive only while the page is loaded and your phone is awake. Lock the screen or switch apps, and most mobile browsers suspend the tab — the connection drops and messages stop arriving until you reopen it.
To stay connected on mobile:
Adjust your phone's auto-lock timeout, or keep tapping the screen during a conversation.
Switching to another app pauses the connection on most mobile browsers.
If the connection drops, opening the tab again reconnects you to the room.
Every message is encrypted separately for each person in the room before it leaves your device — nobody, including DayJabber, can read it in transit.
Open the room members list and set a color for your name. Everyone sees your messages in that color.
Paste a URL or email and it becomes a clickable link automatically.
Paste a YouTube link — a watch page, shorts, or share link — and it plays right in the chat.
A toast lets you know when someone enters or exits the room.

Choose any file from your device — documents, photos, video, audio.
Larger files are sent in pieces with a progress bar so you can see it moving.
Images and video open inline. Other file types download for you to open manually.
Hold the mic button to record, release to transcribe. Transcription runs entirely on our own servers — your voice never goes to a third party, and audio is discarded right after transcription, never stored.
Processing is currently modest, so expect some delay on transcription. We'll scale up capacity as demand grows. Enable auto-send if you want transcribed messages sent immediately instead of landing in the box for review.Toggle the AI assistant on to ask it questions inside the room. Your thread with the assistant is private — nobody else in the room sees it. Enabling this sends your messages to DayJabber's AI provider.
💡 The assistant isn't trained on DayJabber itself yet, so it can't answer questions about the app — that's on the roadmap.Close the tab and the room stays open for anyone else still in it — your own session just ends. To clear the conversation for everyone, use Wipeout. It empties the room instantly, mid-session, for every participant.
Enable "Delete on Wipeout" if you also want all saved messages removed.Room options are room-wide — changing one applies to everyone in the room, not just your own session.
When "Unencrypted mode" is on, an additional plain-text copy of each message is sent to our server, where it's encrypted at rest and only decrypted for redelivery.
The assistant is on automatically for anyone who joins the room, no need to toggle it each time.
Transcribed voice messages send immediately for everyone in the room instead of waiting for review.
Reads the AI assistant's replies aloud — this only applies to AI responses, not messages from other people in the room. Speech is generated on our own servers, so expect some delay until we scale up capacity.
